Primary School Subjects

Primary school subjects encompass comprehensive academic areas designed to develop well-rounded learners. International Curriculum students study core subjects through the Cambridge framework, with regular assessments that track progress and identify areas for additional support. Portuguese pathway students follow national curriculum requirements, benefiting from enhanced language instruction and creative learning approaches.

Mathematics combines conceptual understanding with problem-solving and real-world applications, while English and Portuguese focus on reading, writing, speaking, and listening through classic and contemporary texts. Science nurtures analytical thinking via observation, experimentation, and hypothesis testing, and humanities, including history and geography, build understanding of local and global communities, cultural diversity, and historical perspectives. Studying Portuguese heritage alongside international topics fosters research skills and a broader perspective, preparing students for a globalised future.

Primary School Assessment

At our private primary school in the Algarve, assessment methods vary between pathways but consistently focus on supporting student learning rather than merely measuring achievement. Teachers use ongoing observation, project work, and formal assessments to closely monitor progress and provide targeted support where needed. By combining formative and summative assessments with personalised feedback, we ensure students not only meet academic standards but also develop the confidence and skills to excel in future studies.

Portuguese pathway students participate in national assessments, including end-of-cycle examinations and ModA diagnostic evaluations, which track literacy and numeracy while providing valuable guidance for planning and individual support.

International Pathway students follow international assessment frameworks that prepare them for future Cambridge programmes. Regular checkpoint tests ensure students meet global standards whilst identifying areas for additional support or extension activities.
