The International Pathway, aligned with the widely recognised Cambridge Lower Secondary framework, challenges and inspires students through a broad and balanced curriculum. Both routes equip learners to thrive academically, socially, and personally, ready for future challenges.

Middle School Assessment

Assessment strategies in our Vilamoura middle school programmes reflect the rigorous standards of both Portuguese national requirements and international benchmarks.

National Curriculum Assessment

Students in the Portuguese Curriculum Pathway participate in end-of-cycle examinations and ModA assessments, promoted by IAVE (Instituto de Avaliação Educativa) and the Ministry of Education. These assessments evaluate the knowledge and competencies students have acquired throughout the learning cycles.

End-of-cycle examinations in Maths and Portuguese take place in Grade 9, ensuring students have mastered the skills needed to progress to the next educational level. ModA assessments (Monitoring and Diagnosis of Learning) additionally track student progress at the end of the 2.º Ciclo.

International Curriculum Assessment

Students in the International Curriculum Pathway have ongoing assessments to help identify learners’ strengths and areas for improvement, informing personalised support. They also undertake Cambridge Checkpoint tests at the end of Grade 8. These internationally recognised assessments provide a benchmark of students’ understanding in core subjects and help guide teaching and learning in preparation for the next stage of their education.

language Immersion Middle School

Language Immersion in Middle School

Our middle school programme emphasises multilingualism, recognising its benefits in today’s interconnected world. Students in both pathways study English and Portuguese as separate subjects, while other subjects are taught in their pathway's language of instruction. Students may take Cambridge English examinations, gaining globally recognised certifications.

French is included in both pathways and offers DELF certification opportunities (A1–A2–B1), with mock oral exams evaluated by external examiners. This internationally recognised Alliance Française qualification demonstrates linguistic competence and cultural understanding, enhancing students’ academic and professional opportunities in Portugal and abroad.

Students may also take Portuguese proficiency examinations, including TEJO (progressive A1–B1), CIPLE (A2), DEPLE (B1), and DIPLE (B2). These assessments build strong linguistic foundations for international students, essential for academic success and integration into Portuguese educational and social life.

In addition to these 3 languages, students may also take Russian lessons as part of their extracurricular programme, providing further opportunities to develop multilingual skills and cultural awareness.
