First and foreign languages

The structure of the curriculum reflects international education. In Kindergarten, English in the Portuguese Studies and Portuguese in the English Studies promote important communication skills and the means of accessing each other’s world. These are very important skills in a multicultural school with children coming from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.  

In 2013, the Multilingualism programme widened the range of first and foreign languages at CIV.

In addition to Portuguese, English, French (curricula subjects) and German, Russian (optional, extra-curricular) classes were initiated in 2014. All students between the ages of 4 and 9 have Mandarin included in their curriculum.  This project ended in 2021.

In 2021 the  year 3 and year 4 students started  French lessons as part of their curriculum.

A multilingual student is a more creative, more tolerant student with enhanced learning abilities.  

There are increasingly more reasons for one to seek a multilingual education. Regarded as a powerful tool, multilingualism enables the development of competitiveness, the promotion of employment and job mobility, the stimulus for the creation of self-employment, together with innovation, curiosity and personal development.

CIV’s goal is to offer a curriculum that provides the student with skills to face the global world of today.
